Nothing screams la dolce vita more than touring Italy by Vespa, and Capri is surely the most iconic place to experience this. Bathed by the crystalline waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea and located just 30 minutes away from the Amalfi Coast, Capri is one of the must-visit spots in Campania. This one or two-day itinerary of Capri on a scooter will show you how to visit all the popular places on the island and have a great time.

How long time should I spend in Capri?

Together with Procida and Ischia, Capri is one of the easiest islands to visit for a day trip from Naples, Sorrento, or the Amalfi Coast. If you have enough time, two days are perfect to explore and check off every single sight on the island. Nevertheless, even a one-day visit to Capri provides a glimpse into the island’s vibrant resort life, allowing you to visit popular sights, indulge in leisure activities, and even take a refreshing swim in the pristine waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea!

We embarked on a captivating day trip to Capri from Sorrento, and challenging our organisation, we managed to have a day full of activities and fun.

5 mistakes to avoid when visiting Capri

To help you planning a perfect day trip to Capri, I summarised below 5 main mistakes to avoid on a first visit.

1. Not planning in advance because “it’s a small island”

One common mistake is assuming that Capri’s small size means you can explore it without any planning. However, Capri is a mountainous island with numerous attractions. To make the most of your stay, it’s advisable to create a little itinerary.

2. Thinking of going “on foot”

We almost fell into this mistake too. A part of our group wanted to go “on foot” while me and Alessio were strongly against. Indeed, while some may consider exploring Capri on foot, it’s important to note that the island’s size makes it impractical and time-consuming. Opting for other modes of transportation, such as scooters or buses, is a better choice, especially if you have limited time..

3. Renting a car

Renting a car in Capri is not recommended. Many places lack parking spaces, and during the summer season, finding a spot can be extremely challenging. Moreover, the cities of Capri and Anacapri are car-free zones. Unless you’re staying longer than three days, having a car doesn’t offer significant benefits.

4. Checking only the “famous” beach spots

Capri is renowned for its glamorous beach spots, with the one at the Faraglioni being particularly popular. However, this beach tends to be overcrowded, has limited scooter parking, and can be quite expensive. Explore other beaches and coves on the island that are equally worth visiting.

5. Thinking of doing it “on a budget”

For decades, Capri, along with Taormina and Positano, has been considered one of Italy’s most glamorous summer destinations. As a child, I remember how many Italians regarded a summer in Capri as the epitome of a luxurious lifestyle, symbolizing social status akin to the conspicuous displays of today’s luxury holidaymakers.

Although times and holiday destinations have certainly changed since the 90s, Capri still exudes an undeniable glamour that makes it a high-end and expensive destination. This means you should let go of the idea of finding a “1 euro fried pizza” like in Naples and adjust your budget to accommodate higher expenses. While the city of Anacapri offers slightly more affordable options, it is still not comparable to the “normal” prices found on the mainland

How to Get to Capri

Because Capri is an island, the only means of reaching it from the mainland is by boat. Currently, there are several options to reach Capri from Naples, Sorrento, Ischia, and the Amalfi Coast.

Getting to Capri from Naples

When traveling from Naples to Capri, you have two different options. You can depart from either the Calata Porta di Massa port or the Molo Beverello port. The choice of port depends on the type of boat you prefer. Hydrofoils depart from Molo Beverello, while slower and more affordable ferries depart from Calata Porta di Massa.

If you prefer the faster (but more expensive) option, SNAV is the recommended company. They offer hourly departures, and the journey from Naples to Capri takes just 50 minutes. The price for a return trip for two people is 89.00€.

If you are willing to sacrifice some speed for cost savings, Caremar is your best option. However, please note that the ferry schedule is not as frequent. It is advisable to check the schedule to find the best departure time. In high season, a return ticket for two people costs 66.00€, and the journey takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Getting to Capri from Sorrento

When traveling from Sorrento to Capri, you have the advantage of a quick journey. Both the ferry and hydrofoil options take between 20 and 35 minutes to reach the island, departing from the port of Marina Piccola.

Caremar is the primary provider of ferry services from Sorrento to Capri, with a ticket price of 76.00€ for two people. The ferry journey takes approximately 32 minutes.

For a slightly faster option, consider the hydrofoil Alilauro Gruson. The price for a return trip for two people is around 80.00€, and the journey takes just 17 minutes!

Other providers such as NLG and SNAV (whose summer schedule is not available yet) also offer transportation from Sorrento to Capri..

Getting to Capri from the Amalfi Coast

If you are in the Amalfi Coast and wish to visit Capri, the best departure point is Amalfi. The travel time varies depending on the type of boat chosen. Hydrofoils take around 45 minutes, while ferries take approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes. Prices range between 77.00€ and 100.00€, with NLG and Alicost being the main providers. Just be aware the connection between the Amalfi Coast and Capri runs only from April to October.

Getting to Capri from Ischia

If you’re planning an enjoyable island-hopping adventure in the Gulf of Naples, Ischia is the ideal starting point to reach Capri. Unfortunately, there are no ferries available directly from Procida to Capri. The ticket prices for the Ischia-Capri route are similar to those of other routes, typically around 93.00€ for a return trip for two people. The journey takes approximately 42 to 50 minutes.

The main providers for this route are Alilauro and Alicost. They operate connections between Ischia and Capri from the end of April to mid-October, departing from the Port of Ischia.

What is the best time to visit Capri?

Capri offers a variety of experiences depending on the time of year you choose to visit. The best season to visit Capri largely depends on your preferences and whether you’re looking to explore the island’s main sights or indulge in a relaxing beach holiday. For those interested in sightseeing and enjoying the island’s natural beauty, the shoulder seasons of April to June and September to October are highly recommended. During these months, the weather is pleasant, crowds are smaller, and accommodation rates are more affordable. u might even be able to take a refreshing dip in the sea if the weather allows!

On the other hand, if your main goal is to experience the sun-drenched beaches and enjoy a leisurely beach holiday, then the summer months of July and August are your best bet. During this time, Capri comes alive with vibrant beach clubs and a lively atmosphere. You can bask in the best Italian sunshine, swim in the crystal-clear waters, and soak up the glamorous beach culture. Keep in mind that July and August are considered high season in Italy, and as a result, accommodation prices tend to be at their highest rates of the year.

Whether you choose to visit Capri during the shoulder season for a more tranquil experience or embrace the summer beach fun, this island paradise promises an unforgettable Italian getaway. Plan your trip accordingly and get ready to immerse yourself in the beauty and allure of Capri.

A (brief) history of Capri

The island of Capri holds a rich historical legacy, making it a treasure trove of archaeological and cultural discoveries. Its history dates back to prehistoric times, and as a former Greek colony, both the towns of Capri and Anacapri likely existed during that period, albeit under different names. However, it was during the Roman era that Capri’s history took a significant turn. Emperor Tiberius chose Capri as his residence for the final twelve years of his life, constructing twelve remarkable Roman villas where he spent his time. While Villa Jovis remains one of the best-preserved and accessible villas, the remains of the other eleven villas are scattered across the island, bearing witness to this fascinating period.

Following the decline of the Western Roman Empire, Capri came under the rule of Naples. However, the island faced centuries of pirate attacks, with one of the most notable being led by the Ottoman corsair Barbarossa Hayreddin Pasha, famously known as “Barbarossa,” who razed the Castle of Anacapri, now known as Barbarossa Castle. In the early 19th century, Capri became a contested territory between the British and French powers, eventually being handed over to Ferdinand I of the Two Sicilies in 1813. The late 19th century marked a turning point for Capri as it gained popularity among artists and wealthy individuals seeking to experience the enchanting Blue Grotto and the island’s captivating beauty. Since then, Capri has retained its allure as one of the world’s most exclusive and sought-after destinations for travelers.

Discovering Capri: The Best Ways to Explore and Get Around

If driving a scooter is not appealing to you, there are different ways you can explore Capri and make the most of the island. Use the scooter guide below as a reference for your alternative itinerary!

Public Bus

If you prefer not to venture around on a scooter, Capri provides a dependable bus network that connects the main towns and many popular attractions.

ATC is the primary bus company operating on the island. A single bus ticket costs €2.20, and you can also purchase tickets online here. Alternatively, ticket offices are conveniently located at Marina Piccola, Capri, and Anacapri,

Taxi

Taxis can provide a comfortable but relatively expensive option for transportation on Capri. They can be booked in advance or found at designated spots, such as Marina Piccola. Taxis in Capri can be considered attractions in themselves. Indeed, they are convertible cars with vibrant interiors reminiscent of a Barbie set.

For an insightful overview of taxi prices to get around Capri, you can refer to the mentioned website. However, it’s important to note that these prices are indicative and may not account for external factors such as traveling during high season or the number of passengers in the vehicle.

Funicular

The funicular of Capri provides a convenient and picturesque mode of transportation. Departing from Marina Grande, it swiftly takes you to the centre of Capri town in just 15 minutes. A ticket for the funicular costs €2.20, and please note that an additional surcharge applies for large luggage. Tickets are sold at Marina Grande near the high-speed ferry ticket office.

Capri scooter itinerary: unforgettable rides with stunning coastal views

Capri’s narrow streets, limited parking areas, and car-free zones make scooters the ideal choice for exploring the island. Exploring Capri by scooter is not only easy and safe but also cost-effective. Additionally, it allows you to experience a taste of la dolce vita as you enjoy scenic rides along the coast. In the following sections, you will discover everything you need to know about renting a scooter in Capri, the best routes to follow, and the main sights to explore.

Capri scooter rental: Tips and recommendations for a smooth experience

Upon your arrival in Capri, you’ll likely notice two prominent features: a multitude of convertible taxis and a wide selection of scooter rental shops. Indeed, both options are incredibly popular for exploring the island. When it comes to scooter rentals, there are various types of shops available. Some exclusively rent Vespas (though not the vintage ones, unfortunately), while others offer a range of scooter models to choose from. Prices typically range between 50€ and 80€ per day, which usually includes the cost of fuel. It’s advisable to steer clear of shops that charge over 100€ per day or do not include fuel in the rental price, as they may be attempting to take advantage of customers.

For our scooter day trip, we opted for Rents Scooter Capri. Conveniently located near Marina Grande, it is the closest shop for scooter rentals. Their rental rates start at 30€, which includes fuel, making it an affordable choice. Additionally, they provide customers with maps and valuable tips for the day, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience.

What you need to rent a scooter in Capri

Before embarking on your Capri scooter adventure, it’s important to familiarise yourself with the necessary requirements for scooter rentals. Reputable rental shops have certain prerequisites in place to ensure a safe and responsible rental experience. Here are the essential items you’ll need:

1. Driving License: while technically not required for 50cc scooters, most rental shops will ask for a valid driving license. This ensures that you are familiar with the rules of the road and helps prevent any potential accidents.
2. Credit Card: similar to car rentals, scooter rentals typically require a deposit. Having a credit card is essential for this purpose. Without a credit card, it may not be possible to rent a scooter.
3. Valid Form of ID: to verify your identity, you will need to present a valid form of identification such as an identity card or passport. Photos of ID documents are generally not accepted.

Exploring Capri’s iconic landmarks by scooter: a comprehensive one-day scooter itinerary

Now that you’re familiar with the process of renting a scooter in Capri, it’s time to embark on an extraordinary two-wheeled road trip! The roadmap provided above serves as a comprehensive summary of all the key highlights we explored during our day trip in Capri. If you have additional days in the island, I’ll share a few more attractions that you can add to your itinerary down below.

Your journey begins at Marina Grande, which serves as the perfect starting point for your adventure. From here, you have the flexibility to choose various directions based on your preferences and interests. Below, I’ve outlined the exact route we took during our adventure, ensuring you don’t miss any of the highlights.

First stop: Enjoy the iconic sight of the Faraglioni

The Faraglioni, Capri’s most iconic sight, are majestic rock formations that have stood close to the island coast for centuries. Towering at approximately 100 meters in height, these natural wonders captivate visitors with their awe-inspiring presence. As you arrive at the renowned Spiaggia Torre Saracena, one of Capri’s most famous beaches, you’ll immediately catch sight of the Faraglioni in the distance.

One of the best ways to get a close-up view of the Faraglioni is undoubtedly through a boat tour. Taking a boat tour allows you to admire these impressive rock formations up close and fully appreciate their natural beauty.

One interesting fact about the Faraglioni is that each of them has a name! The one connected to the land is called Stella, the middle one is known as Faraglione di Mezzo, and the third one is named Scopolo.

Indulge in Luxury: Exquisite Choices for Experiencing the Capri Faraglioni

If you have additional days to explore Capri, I highly recommend indulging in a unique experience. Da Luigi ai Faraglioni stands out as one of the most exclusive beach clubs on the island. It offers the opportunity to swim directly beneath the majestic Faraglioni rocks and savour authentic Mediterranean cuisine in one of Capri’s most breathtaking locations.
Please note that access to Da Luigi ai Faraglioni beach club is exclusively available through prior reservation. For the Summer of 2023, the prices are as follows:

• Admission with sun lounger or deck chair: €100, which includes a €55 credit to be used in the restaurant or bar
• Ombrellone €15 cad.
• Changing cabana: €20/each
• Beach towel: €10/each
• Boat to Marina Piccola: €7 per person.

Second stop: taste la dolce vita in the charming Piazzetta of Capri

As you continue your journey through the island, make your way to the delightful Piazzetta, the lively heart of the city of Capri. Here, you’ll have the chance to immerse yourself in Italy’s vibrant coffee culture, experiencing it at its finest. With a multitude of cafes scattered across the piazza, you’ll be spoiled for choice as you indulge in la dolce vita, savouring a cup of aromatic Italian coffee.

Don’t miss the opportunity of taking a slow moment just to observe life passing by while admiring the scenic view of the coast.

If you find yourself with some extra time to spare, make sure to seize the opportunity to indulge in a delightful shopping experience along the renowned Via Camerelle. This glamorous street is synonymous with luxury and elegance, boasting an array of upscale boutiques, designer stores, and exquisite restaurants that will tantalise your senses.

Where to park your scooter while stopping in Capri city centre

As mentioned earlier, it’s important to note that most areas in Capri are designated as car-free zones. This includes the city centre of Capri, which is entirely pedestrianised. As a result, even two-wheeled vehicles are prohibited from entering this area. If you wish to explore the city centre and require a safe place to park your scooter, there is a convenient parking option not too far from the central Piazzetta. This is famous as the Parcheggio di Piazzale Europa and it is located on via Roma.

Please be aware that the upper section of the parking facility is exclusively reserved for cars. Therefore, you’ll need to drive to the open lower section specifically designated for scooter parking. The parking area is just a short 5-minute walk away from the Piazzetta, allowing for easy access to the heart of Capri.

Third stop: Fall in love with Anacapri

If you loved Capri and its lovely Piazzetta, prepare to be captivated by the charming town of Anacapri. Nestled amidst the rolling hills of Monte Solaro, Anacapri exudes a picturesque allure with its unique architecture and charming little shops. It serves as the perfect tranquil and quieter alternative to the glamorous atmosphere of Capri.

Exploring Anacapri is an absolute delight. As you wander through its narrow alleys, each corner reveals a hidden gem waiting to be discovered. I couldn’t help but be drawn in by the town’s irresistible charm. In fact, I found myself regretting that I had only planned for a day-trip and wished I had more time to spend in Anacapri. Despite its small size, this town has some lovely and unmissable sights.

Be charmed by the Casa Rossa of Anacapri

One of my favourites was surely the eccentric Red House (Casa Rossa), which was built between 1876 and 1899 by the American colonel J.C. MacKowen. This unique villa seamlessly incorporates a 15th-century Aragonese tower, making it a remarkable blend of architectural styles. The Red House stands as one of the finest displays of artistic extravaganza on the entire island of Capri. As you explore the island, make sure to stop by. Indeed, this villa showcases a fascinating fusion of history, art, and culture, offering a glimpse into the extravagant lifestyle of its former owner.

The museum of the Red House is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 – 16:00.

Tip: If you’re looking for a place to enjoy a coffee or a refreshing drink, be sure to visit Capri Crema Cafe, located right in front of the Red House. This charming café offers excellent coffee, with cups that coincidentally match the colours of the Red House, and a delightful assortment of pastries to complement your beverage. It’s the perfect spot to relax and indulge in a tasty treat while taking in the surroundings.

Fourth stop: Take a dip into the crystalline waters of Punta Carena (aka Faro Beach).

If you started this itinerary early in the morning (just like I did), you’ll now have two options to choose from. You can either head towards one of the magnificent coastal villas or enjoy a refreshing swim in one of the island’s secluded coves, followed by a delightful seaside lunch. If you’re interested in the latter option, keep reading. Otherwise, feel free to jump to the paragraph titled “Two or more days in Capri. Additional sights you can’t miss on your trip”.
Punta Carena is a stunning coastal area situated on the southwestern side of the island of Capri. It is famous for its remarkable lighthouse, which happens to be the second tallest in Italy. Nestled beside this iconic landmark is a secluded rocky cove called “Faro Beach.” This hidden gem is a beloved spot for locals seeking refuge from the bustling crowds that typically flock to the more famous beaches near the Faraglioni area.

If you enjoy swimming and are comfortable mingling with lively groups of Italians, Faro Beach is an ideal destination for you.

How to get to Faro Beach in Capri

There are two primary ways to access “Faro Beach”. The first option is through the exclusive Lido del Faro, where entrance is granted upon payment of a fee of €100, which includes a €50 food voucher for the on-site restaurant. The second option, is to bypass the lido and make your way down to the rocky area closer to the sea. This alternative is free of charge. However, there are a couple of important factors to consider.

Firstly, the available space on the rocks is extremely limited. Indeed after 10 am, it can be challenging to find an unoccupied spot. Secondly, when the tide is high, there is a risk of losing your belongings. Therefore, it is advisable to exercise caution and keep a close eye on your personal items in such circumstances.
Arriving around lunchtime, we discovered that all the spots were already occupied. So we decided to leave our belongings on the rocks. However, the sea was quite rough, and I almost lost all my clothes to the waves (see picture above)!

Enjoy a traditional Caprese for lunch

After enjoying our refreshing swim, it was time to satisfy our hunger with a delicious lunch. Instead of splurging at the expensive Lido Beach Club, we decided to go for the more affordable option of “Da Antonio.” This historic snack bar serves Capri locals since 1950 and is famous for its tasty caponata. While the caponata was a bit too much for me, I couldn’t resist trying a traditional Caprese focaccia, which turned out to be absolutely delicious. And what best place to try a Caprese then Capri???

Fifth stop: Take a boat trip to the Blue Grotto

The Blue Grotto (Grotta Azzurra) is one of the most famous sea caves in southern Italy. This attracts every year visitors from around the world, and its still one of the most amazing natural wonders in the island. What makes this cave truly unique is the mesmerising effect created by sunlight filtering through an underwater cavity. This casts a beautiful blue reflection that illuminates the entire cavern.

Stretching approximately 50 meters into the cliff and reaching a depth of about 150 meters, the Blue Grotto offers a captivating experience. However, it’s important to note that the entrance is only around 2 meters high, allowing boats to enter only during low tide. Swimming inside the cave is strictly prohibited. However, it is fascinating to learn that during the Roman era, the grotto served as Emperor Tiberius’ personal swimming spot. In fact, the emperor adorned the cave with several statues. These have lately been recovered from the depths and are now on display in the Red House in Anacapri.

The Blue Grotto is steeped in legends dating back to medieval times. Indeed, it was believed to be infested with demons and monsters. These captivating tales add to the allure and mystique surrounding this extraordinary natural wonder.

How to get to the Blue Grotto in Capri

Access to the Blue Grotto is exclusively available through organised tours operating from 9 am to 5 pm. It’s important to note that tours are subject to weather conditions. Indeed, in the event of strong winds or high tide, tours may be canceled for safety reasons. The entrance fee for the Blue Grotto is 14 € per person. Tours are conducted using small rowboats that can accommodate a maximum of four passengers.

For security purposes and due to the small entrance passage of the cave, visitors will be required to lay at the bottom of the boat rather than sitting or standing. This precaution ensures a safe and smooth passage into the Blue Grotto, allowing everyone to marvel at the enchanting beauty of the illuminated cave.

Last stop of the Capri scooter itinerary: end your day at the top of Monte Solaro

Conclude your Capri scooter tour by visiting one of the most breathtaking locations on the entire island: Monte Solaro. As the highest peak in Capri, soaring 589m above sea level, it offers unparalleled panoramic views that are sure to leave you in awe. The locals affectionately refer to it as the “Cloud Catcher”. This is due to the frequent presence of a mystical fog enveloping the peak, especially during twilight hours.

This phenomenon occurs as a result of temperature fluctuations throughout the day. This cause the moist air to rise and create a captivating misty atmosphere. Standing atop Monte Solaro, you’ll feel as though you’re on top of the world, surrounded by the ethereal beauty of the island and the azure Tyrrhenian Sea stretching out before you.

How to get to Monte Solaro

To reach the summit of Monte Solaro, there are two main options, both departing from Anacapri. The first option is to embark on a scenic hike that takes approximately 45 minutes. This 3.7km route winds its way uphill, showcasing the natural beauty of the surroundings. The hiking path is well-maintained, and as you progress, the incline becomes less steep. However, please note that this option requires a certain level of fitness.

Alternatively, you can opt for the historical chairlift, which has been in operation since its construction in 1952. The chairlift departs from the centre of Anacapri, conveniently located just a few streets behind the Red House. In a mere 13 minutes, the chairlift transports you to the summit of Monte Solaro. Operating hours during the summer season are from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM. A return ticket for the chairlift cost €14.

Whichever option you choose, reaching the top of Monte Solaro is the perfect way to end your scooter day trip to Capri.

Two or more days in Capri. Additional sights you can’t miss on your trip

If you have planned a multi-day visit to Capri, you have the wonderful opportunity to immerse yourself in the island’s beauty and discover its hidden treasures. With extra time on your hands, you can expand your itinerary and incorporate additional remarkable sights.

Fall in love with Capri’s magnificent villas

There is a quite interesting Italian term called “Villeggiatura” of which derives the verb “villeggiare”. This encompass the concept of taking a break in a remarkable destination. Its origins trace back to the Roman “otium villa,” signifying a retreat from the demands of everyday life. Capri has always been an epitome of Villeggiatura. Its numerous villas stand as testaments to people’s quest for splendid and secluded havens, offering an escape from the ordinary and a chance to indulge in dolce far niente.

Capri boasts more than 10 historic villas. Some of them are open to the general public, some others are available only for exclusive private rentals. Among the ones you must include in your list, Villa San Michele probably stands at the top. This 19th-century architectural marvel, captivates visitors with its breathtaking collections and exquisite gardens, inviting you to immerse in a world of beauty and tranquility. Villa San Michele is open all-year-around and the entrance ticket is of 10€.

Another breathtaking villa to include in your itinerary is Villa Lysis. A magnificent example of Art Nouveau architecture of the last century. This stunning villa was constructed by the French novelist Jacques d’Adelswärd-Fersen as a permanent retreat from his public life. Offering respite from his once controversial lifestyle. With its multi-level layout and panoramic gardens, Villa Lysis offers an unparalleled view of the coastline. Additionally, situated at just a few steps away, the ruins of Villa Jovis, one of the historical villas of Emperor Tiberius, that incredibly connects to the main garden. Tickets for Villa Lysis have a cost of 1,50€ while Villa Jovis is 6€.

Take a relaxing walk from Marina Piccola to the Garden of Augustus through the winding Via Krupp

Via Krupp is a historic winding footpath that connects Marina Piccola to the Gardens of Augustus, offering breathtaking views along the way. Commissioned by Friedrich Alfred Krupp and completed in 1902, this elegant pathway gracefully winds through the rocky terrain, standing approximately 100 meters above the sea. Unfortunately, the pathway has been closed for security reasons in recent years due to the risk of falling rocks. During my visit, I could only catch a glimpse of Via Krupp from the Gardens of Augustus. However, I have exciting news to share! In March 2023, the Mayor of Capri announced the official reopening of Via Krupp for the summer of 2023. This means that you will have the wonderful opportunity to take a stroll along this iconic pathway from Marina Piccola to the Gardens of Augustus, immersing yourself in the beauty and charm of Capri. Don’t miss this unforgettable experience!

How to walk from Marina Piccola to the Gardens of Augustus with map.

Once Via Krupp reopens, walking from Marina Piccola to the Gardens of Augustus should take no more than 30 minutes. The route covers a distance of about 1.9 kilometers and is mostly flat, making it a pleasant and leisurely walk. However, it’s worth noting that the duration may vary depending on factors such as photo stops or a slower pace. You can use the above map as a reference to guide you.

For a convenient starting point, you can begin your walk from Marina Piccola Beach or the nearby Hotel Nautilus. Simply head towards the Hotel Nautilus and then turn slightly right to find the entrance to the Via Krupp pathway. From there, follow the path uphill until you reach the Gardens of Augustus, where you can immerse yourself in the beauty of the surroundings.

The Gardens of Augustus, formerly known as Krupp Gardens, underwent a name change in 1918. These magnificent botanical gardens are a must-visit in Capri. To enter the gardens, there is an admission fee of 1.5 €. However, you have the option to purchase a combined ticket for 5€, which includes access to the nearby Charterhouse of St. Giacomo as well. This provides an opportunity to explore both captivating sites and immerse yourself in the natural beauty and historical significance of Capri.

When visiting Capri, especially during the summer season, it would be a missed opportunity not to spend a day or two at its captivating beaches and beach clubs. See below a list of the best beaches and beach clubs in Capri.

Spiaggia di Marina Piccola

Alongside the previously mentioned Faro Beach, one of my personal favorites is Spiaggia di Marina Piccola. This renowned beach offers breathtaking views of the Faraglioni rock formations and boasts mesmerizing turquoise waters. While exploring the area, keep an eye out for the close Siren’s rocks. A legendary spot where Ulysses succumbed to the enchantment of the sirens.

If you prefer a free beach experience, there are two options available in the proximity of Marina Piccola: Marina di Mulo and Marina di Pennauro. However, be sure to arrive early as they tend to fill up rapidly. Alternatively, you can opt to rent a comfortable sun bed from one of the numerous beach clubs dotted along the bay. These beach clubs are easily identifiable by their vibrant and picturesque umbrellas, adding to the vibrant ambiance of the coastline.

Undoubtedly, the most renowned beach club on the island is Bagni Internazionali di Capri. As the largest beach club in Capri, it spans across an expansive 3000 square meters spread on different levels. This exclusive beach club boasts a private parking area, multiple restaurants, and a plethora of facilities. Notably, it is famous for featuring the most photogenic and picturesque beach beds found anywhere on the island. A visit to Bagni Internazionali di Capri is an absolute must for beach enthusiasts seeking a luxurious and unforgettable experience.

Bagni di Tiberio Beach

If you’re seeking a serene and tranquil beach experience while basking in the crystalline waters of Capri, Bagni di Tiberio beach is the perfect choice. As the oldest beach club on the island, Bagni di Tiberio Beach Club has been welcoming visitors since 1926. Its name derives from its remarkable historical significance. Indeed, this beach club is situated on the grounds of Tiberius’ Palazzo a Mare. One of the twelve Emperor’s villas in Capri. The beach club has been thoughtfully built around the Roman ruins, offering an exclusive opportunity to swim amidst this ancient heritage.

To ensure a seamless experience at Bagni di Tiberio beach, it is strongly recommended to make an advance reservation due to the limited space available. You can conveniently book your entrance online through the provided link. The entrance fee for the beach is 15€. This grants you access to the facilities including a changing room with a locker, access to showers, and a private beach area. If you wish to enhance your comfort with a sunbed, there is an additional rental fee of 15€. Getting to the beach club can be done in two main ways: either by walking along Via Palazzo a Mare or by taking a boat from Marina Grande. It’s worth noting that boat transportation is included with your booking, ensuring a convenient and enjoyable journey to the beach club.

Marina Grande Beach

Marina Grande serves as a bustling hub in Capri, offering both a major arrival port for ferries from Naples, Ischia, and Sorrento, as well as one of the largest beaches on the island. As a tourist, arriving at Marina Grande for the first time can be overwhelming due to the abundance of activities and the influx of people, especially during the busy months of July and August. Buses, taxis, and small boats are readily available, eager to transport you to your next destination.

Located just a 5-minute walk from the busy pier, Marina Grande Beach stretches along a strip of land measuring nearly 300 meters. The great news is that unlike many other beaches on the island, this beach is completely free to access. As a result, it can get quite crowded, particularly during the warmer months when visitors flock to the area. However, if you prefer a more exclusive experience while staying in the area, Le Ondine Beach Club is the perfect choice. Situated centrally in the bustling Capri area, this beach club offers a completely private setting. Here, guests can indulge in a more luxurious and tranquil experience, away from the crowded public beach, while still being in close proximity to the vibrant atmosphere of Marina Grande.

Where to stay in Capri

While I haven’t had the opportunity to stay in any hotels in Capri personally, I can certainly provide you with some recommendations based on my knowledge of the hospitality sector. As mentioned earlier, Capri is famous for its higher costs. However, that doesn’t mean you have to drain your bank account to enjoy a holiday there. If you’re on a tight budget, it may be cheaper to opt for a day trip to the island and choose accommodation on the mainland, where you can find more affordable options offering similar experience. Luxury hotels in Capri

If you’re looking for the ultimate luxury experience in Capri, there are several exquisite options to choose from. One of the most renowned and exclusive hotels on the island is J.K. Place Capri. Boutique hotels in Capri

Small but charming, boutique hotels are in general my go-choice when it comes to visit a new place. They feature always the best decor and, if family run, they give you the opportunity for an enhanced local experience. Capri has numerous boutique hotels. However, I picked up my two favourite choices thinking about where I would love to stay for a possible future visit.

The first recommendation is Casa di Capri, a charming guesthouse located in the heart of Capri. This boutique hotel holds a special place as it was once owned by a historic family of artists and musicians. The property thoughtful renovation has preserved the original architectural elements of the house while incorporating modern comforts. Staying at Casa di Capri will provide you with a genuine sense of the island’s heritage and a chance to immerse yourself in the artistic ambiance. Prices starts at €550 per night for a double room.

My second recommendation is Hotel La Minerva. Situated in a tranquil corner of Capri, this family-run hotel offers a warm and intimate atmosphere. With its tasteful decor and attention to detail, La Minerva exudes elegance and sophistication. The personalised service and genuine hospitality provided by the friendly staff ensure a memorable and authentic experience. Price starts at €1.290 per night for a double room in high season.

Budget hotels in Capri

Honestly there’s not such a thing as a “budget hotel in Capri”. Even lower-category hotels on the island tend to have high rates, especially during the summer months when the demand is high. If you have a budget of around €150-200 per night, you may need to adjust your expectations and consider more affordable alternatives.

For personal experience after an unfortunate b&b choice in Positano a few years ago, downgrade to these options only if strictly necessary. It’s always worth spending a few bucks more instead of discover someone has stolen your shoes! Sad but true story. While it may require stretching your budget, investing a little extra in a reputable hotel can provide you with peace of mind and a more enjoyable experience. Consider looking for mid-range hotels or guesthouses that offer a balance between affordability and quality. Additionally, booking well in advance and considering shoulder seasons or weekdays might help you secure better rates.

Some budget recommendations in Capri

After a little research among the budget options for Capri, I don’t feel confident to suggest any of them. Maybe they are fantastic, but I don’t feel to recommend them here. Instead, I found two slightly more affordable options that still looks like two great places to stay.

Hotel Mamela sounds like a lovely choice with its airy and bright rooms, along with a stunning infinity pool overlooking Marina Piccola.

Starting around €400 per night for a Superior Double room, Hotel Mamela provides a more budget-friendly option compared to the luxurious choices mentioned earlier. However, it’s important to note that prices tend to increase as the demand grows during the summer season. Therefore, booking well in advance is advisable to secure the best rates.

My second, and probably favourite choice, is Villa la Pergola. This accommodation sounds truly like a hidden gem and a fantastic choice for a more affordable yet memorable stay in Capri. Villa La Pergola looks like acorner of paradise away from the crowds, allowing guests to enjoy tranquility and stunning views of the coast.

The rooms, with their picturesque views, provide a delightful experience. The large private garden, offers a serene space for relaxation after a day of exploring Capri’s attractions. If you are fortunate enough to secure a reservation during the summer months, consider yourself lucky as Villa la Pergola promises an unforgettable stay. Rooms starts at the unbelievable price of €100 per night for a double room in low season. The price goes up considerably in high season, so it’s better to book as soon as possible.
