Spain

Any reasonable, sentient person who looks at Spain, comes to Spain, eats in Spain, drinks in Spain, they’re going to fall in love. Otherwise, there’s something deeply wrong with you. This is the dream of all the world.

Spain, for a reason or another, is one of those places I haven’t been able to explore as much as I wished to. I studied Spanish history. However, from a traveller perspective, I can’t say I am satisfied with my ground knowledge of the country. Indeed, some of my bucket lists places in Spain, like Alhambra or Sevilla haven’t been yet checked off. However, as I always say, it’s on my list! For the moment, enjoy these few Spain travel guides, hoping to add more in the future.

Spain Travel Information

The capital and largest city of Spain is Madrid. This is also the second largest city in the European Union after Berlin.

Spain official language is Spanish. Nevertheless, some autonomous communities there are co-official languages. For example Catalan or Basque.

Spain currency is Euro. You can obtain Euro from any currency exchange office or ATM around the country or before you arrive. Contactless payments are accepted widely around the nation. Nevertheless, cash is still widely used for small purchases.

Same as Greece, Spain has a standard type F socket. However type C and type E plugs can also be used thanks to their compatibility with type F sockets. If you are traveling from the United Kingdom, or any other nation outside Europe, it’s worth to invest into an universal adapter. So that you don’t need to buy one for every destination I visit.

Booking your hotel in advance is essential to stay at your preferred accommodation. Indeed, during peak periods and summer, and in the most popular islands like Tenerife or Ibiza, accommodation might be limited. I always get the best rates on Booking.com and I booked here all my stays in Spain.

Safety in Spain

Although islands tend to be safe, mainland Spain (particularly big cities) are famous for small thefts and pickpockets. This is quite common in Europe, especially in busy places and public transport. For this reason is always better to exercise an extra level of caution when traveling in crowded places. Just for an extra-layer of safety, I always recommend to place your passport and cash in a Invisible Money Belt. My best suggestion is to keep on your wallet only small pieces of cash and hide the rest in the money belt. Indeed, this is very discrete and will ensure you can go around safely and without gaining unwanted attention.
