Discover in this blog my luxury stay at Falkestein Grand.

Falkenstein Grand Autograph Collection

A place with a history

Luxury stay at Falkestein Grand
Luxury stay at Falkestein Grand – Historical room inside the hotel (not generally open to the public)

Long before being a luxury hotel, Falkestein Grand opened its door as a sanatorium in 1875. Königstein, is a location known for its clean mountain air and medical springs, this contribute to the success of the sanatorium that soon became a pioneer in the cure of lung diseases. In 1909, Kaiser Wilhelm II built the current hotel structure as a recreation home for senior officers. The structure, was used as a hospital for war victims until WWI. After the closure in 1991, it reopened as a luxury hotel in 1999.

Most of the original structure built by Kaiser Wilhelm II remains in pristine conditions. This includes the numerous undergrounds passageways connecting various buildings that are still used as enhancement of the guests’ experience. In this regards, history lovers should watch out for some quirky historical details around the hotel and part of the original structure! I had the pleasure of receiving an exclusive tour of some of the historical rooms (not normally open to the public) and I really enjoyed their preservation.

Lastly, Falkenstein Grand is historically famous for its pure drinking water, this is still drawn from the hotel’s own spring. This is situated directly on the Döngesberg, not far from the hotel complex.

The Hotel

The hotel, currently part of the Marriott’s Autograph Collection, houses 112 rooms, suites and apartments and a unique penthouse.  These are connected throughout the 1500 metres-long underground historical tunnel. This also connect the rooms to the wellness centre and to the luxury ASCARA Beauty Spa. You can walk with your bathrobe, comfortably and in total privacy, from the wellness to the spa without never do a step outside in the cold! Rooms are spacious, luminous and with nice private balconies offering a refreshing view on the Frankfurt landscape.

Furnitures, which have been renewed less than four years ago, follow a deluxe classical style typical of the nineteenth-century luxury European villas with, cream bedding sets enriched by soft floral decorations on solid wooden frames.

Luxury stay at Falkestein Grand. Our experience

The Room

We stayed in a classic double room. This is a medium-sized room that is perfect for two people. The room had a small terrace with a view on the back of the hotel. The room included bathrobes, mini fridge, and free l’Occitaine toiletries!! There was a small sofa in the room (which I am not sure could turn into sofa bed). However, the room is not fit for more than 2 people. Therefore, if you are staying with children, is better to opt for a Classic Family Room.

The room has a classic decor with flower beddings and marble bathroom. I think this decor is perfectly in line with the style of the hotel and somehow reflect its imperial history. I loved the medical plants frames that recollect this place to its medical history.

Wellness centre and Ascara Spa

I have to say that I have a thing for wellness hotels. This because while traveling I have the tendency to rush from one place to another in order to catch as much as possible from my explorations. Therefore, having a place where to relax at the beginning or end of the day makes me feel pampered. At the Falkestein Grand one can choose to relax at the at the 1,200 sqm ASCARA Beauty Spa. Both are located at a little distance from the main building. Comfortably reachable via the (historic) underground passage connecting the rooms to the facilities. The wellness centre includes sauna, an outdoor heated pool at a temperature of 29°, whirlpool, changing facilities and a lounge area where to relax and enjoy a warm fruit/herb infusion provided for guests.

Swimming outside in a cold German morning can be quite challenging. Nevertheless, the warm water of the pool made this easier. On my advice, during the winter season it is better to have your swim outside first and warm yourself in the sauna/whirlpool later. Indeed, the whirlpool water is warmer than the pool and might you feel the outside temperature colder.

The spa offers a wide selection of treatments (e.g. scrubs, massages etc.) and the opportunity to relax in two different types of sauna. Inside, there is also a fitness suite where guests can train, follow classes and use dedicate equipment at the same time.

Restaurant Landgut Falkenstein

We completed our already perfect stay at the Falkenstein Grand with a lunch at their in-house Restaurant Landgut Falkenstein. This is a fine-dining restaurant that mixes a touch of rustic feelings with innovative interpretations in a classy atmosphere. You know how much I love design and cuisine mixed together and Landgut Falkenstein did not disappoint at all. Loved in particular the firewall room with the trees-decorated walls looking a bit like a French-bistro.

Our lunch at the Langut Falkenstein was nothing short than perfect and it gave us the opportunity to try the best Rhine-Main regional cuisine. Starting from a fresh local bread accompanied by soft cheese and butter we proceeded then with an exquisite seasonal mushroom soup. Our main dish was a traditional Wiener Schnitzel with cranberries, roasted potatoes and cucumber salad. If you want to enjoy a warm, relaxed atmosphere accompanied by delicious food and an exclusive view on the Frankfurt landscape, the Langut Falkenstein is definitely a great choice.

Practical Information

Location

You can find Falkenstein Grand in Debusweg 6-18, 61462. This is located in a small town called Königstein im Taunus. A picturesque, residential town at the foot of the Taunus mountain and at a very convenient distance from Frankfurt. This is always been famous as the “spa” for its healing springs and pure mountain air. If you are staying at the Falkestein Grand, don’t miss the occasion to explore Königstein im Taunus. The town is very photogenic and on a nice day you can hike up to the fortress Burgruine Königstein for a great view of the surroundings.

Reaching Falkenstein Grand from Frankfurt

Falkenstein Grand is very close to Frankfurt. Just a 25 mins drive. It is possible to reach it also with public transport but there is no direct public stop to the town of Königstein. The closest city is Opelzoo and from there you need to walk 27 mins. Therefore my best recommendation is to rent a car.

Parking is free for the guests of the hotel.
