Best places to stay in Prague Newtown

With its close proximity to the Prague Central Station and at just three-minutes from the popular Wenceslas Square, Miss Sophie’s Downtown is the ideal place for travellers on-the-go and industrial-chic lovers. Thanks to its refined style and modern aesthetic this brand-new boutique hotel is one of the best places to stay in Prague Newtown neighbourhood.

Miss Sophie’s Downtown

Ideally located in the buzzling heart of Nové Město, Miss Sophie’s Downtown is a chic boutique hotel holding that je ne sais quais that makes you want to book a room as soon as you see a first picture online. Indeed, with an interior design inspired by train travelling, each of its room possesses a unique strong character that it’s impossible not to love.

Rooms

Miss Sophie’s Downtown has 9 different types of rooms for a total of 59 rooms divided into two buildings. Visitors can choose to stay in the stylish Orient Express rooms located into the historic building or in the modern rooms of the main building. Moreover, the hotel has also a special Junior Suite featuring a 65 m2 terrace with a view on Prague’s coolest neighbourhood.

Each room features, free wi-fi, in-room safe, television, mini-fridge, tea, & coffee, shelves & hangers, bathroom with rain-dance shower / bathtub, toiletries, towels & hairdryer (most rooms have also air conditioning but you should request this in advance). Moreover, if you fancy a view over Prague, the hotel has also some double and triple rooms with a balcony.

Services

One of the things I loved more of Miss Sophie’s Downtown is that your stay comes with a range of different services. First, continental breakfast is included with your stay! YEY! This something people don’t often think about but, how beautiful is to wake up and have breakfast ready for you? In Miss Sophie’s Downtown you can find a fresh buffet selection of bread, pastries, rolls and much more served in its nice bar.

Second, would you like to have a relaxing day instead of going out in Prague? Miss Sophie’s Downtown got you covered! In fact, at just two metro stops from the hotel, you can visit Miss Sophie’s Newtown and book a 90 minute session at their lovely spa. Here you can use a nice hydromassage hot tub, the infrared sauna, listen to relaxing music and enjoy complimentary refreshments.

Third, if you visit Prague by car, you can have a little peace of mind and park it on Miss Sophie’s Downtown private parking.  You can reserve your spot for 600 CZK/night by sending an email to downtown@miss-sophies.com. Being the hotel located in Prague 1 (a very central location) the parking spots are difficult to find and quite expensive.

Location

You will really appreciate Miss Sophie’s Downtown location when you realise you don’t have to rush to get in time for your train (so you can linger on your breakfast table a little bit more) or you don’t have to walk kilometres to reach the nearest city’s attraction. Indeed, Miss Sophie’s Downtown is located in a very ideal position to start exploring Prague.

Nearest Attraction

Have a great breakfast, put on your best walking shoes, grab your map and explore Prague! Miss Sophie’s Downtown is at just 8 minutes walk from the Municipal House, 2 minutes walk from the Jerusalem Synagogue, 5 minutes walk from the Henry’s Tower and less than 15 minutes walk from Old Town Square.

Moreover, the nearby area of Wenceslas Square is perfect for shopping or dining out. A very nice place to try is the Yalta Craft Bistro (we had a lovely time here with our two little ones).

Our experience at Miss Sophie’s Downtown

The Check-in

Our first arrival in Prague wasn’t really the best. Our morning flight was first cancelled and moved to the late afternoon. Then, our afternoon flight was delayed more than one hour because the BA staff didn’t know that in Prague they needed FFP2 masks (seriously British Airways?). Anyway we landed something like 9.00 pm with two very tired babies crying for their need of warm milk. So, we desperately need to get to the hotel ASAP! The arrival at Miss Sophie’s Downtown was very smooth as the hotel is just at 30 minutes from the airport.

The 24h-reception is in this cases a wonderful thing! The guy was waiting for us with a warm smile and the check-in was quick and efficient. He explained us everything and also give us some suggestions for the best app to use for food-delivering (because of the Covid-19 restrictions all the restaurants in Czech Republic close at 10 pm).

Our Room

I always loved the moment of entering a new hotel room and discover what is like inside, but this time the entrance was really epic. In fact, our room had the magic power of transforming two crying hungry babies into happy ones. The industrial-chic design of Miss Sophie’s downtown is apparently really entertaining for kids and our 16-months-old twins immediately loved it! They completely forgot their need of milk because playing with the furniture was more fun! This gave us a little time to prepare their food, order our food and prepare the room(s) for the night.

We stayed in the Junior Suite that is the only room of its kind inside Miss Sophie’s Downtown. In fact, the room features a 65 m2 terrace that gives you a fantastic view over Prague. Moreover, the Junior Suite is composed of two main rooms. The main double bedroom and an additional single bedroom. This will give you a little more space for you and your family or friends. The staff at Miss Sophie’s was also very kind to set up for us two little cots for our babies.

After their food, the babies went to sleep and this gave us a little time to enjoy the comforts provided by the Junior suite. I appreciated the free bottle of sparkling waters and the chocolate snacks! Moreover, the bed was really soft and comfortable and provided us with a very good night sleep.

The Junior Suite Terrace

Did I tell you that Miss Sophie’s Downtown Junior Suite has a 65 m2 terrace going around the entire building? For a moment I really wished it was summer because it’s that kind of place that makes you want to relax in company of a good book and delicious wine. Moreover, it is so spacious that babies loved to run all around despite being out on a very cold morning!

This terrace brings something very valuable to the room and during the summer/spring season it would becomes one of the most used spaces of the suite! In the terrace, you can find also a little table with some chairs. This gives you also the opportunity to “dine out” at your own place. Food delivery works really well in Prague and this can be an optimal space to have a dinner with a view in your own private terrace!

Breakfast at Miss Sophie’s Downtown

I have to say that breakfast at Miss Sophie’s Downtown was really great! I’ve been to many places and usually when free breakfast is included often means just coffee and a few things. However, Miss Sophie’s breakfast went beyond our expectations! First, the staff was always very kind and immediately provided us with two high chairs for the babies. This is not something we take for granted as in some hotels we’ve been, in the UK or Portugal, we had to wait more than 10 minutes standing with the babies.

Moreover, the breakfast section of the hotel’s cafe was full of delicious food for every type of taste. There was either continental breakfast and English breakfast. A great choice of pastries, bread, marmalade, cereals and so on. For people who loves a salty breakfast there was a good selection of fresh meat, cheese and juices.

The breakfast is served as a buffet regarding the food part. If you want a warm drink, like tea or coffee you can find this at the buffet are. However, if you want a cappuccino, you should order this at the cafe. Because Italian can’t start a day without a cappuccino on their hands, ordering this was just part of our routine. Our breakfast included also a taste of the many local, fresh pastries and orange juice. Maybe I indulged a little bit too much on the croissants filled with some apricot jam. However, in my defence, they were delicious and addicting! Babies had their milk in the room but they tasted some croissants too and they loved them. We were very happy with our breakfast experience and gave our day a great start!

Conclusions

We had a really lovely time at Miss Sophie’s Downtown. It was a great start for our stay in Czech Republic! Miss Sophie’s Downtown is the ideal location for families, friends, couples and single travellers. Offers many services, has a great, kind staff, 24-hours reception and it’s close to many of Prague’s best attractions! Honestly, I don’t see what we could ask for! It was my first visit to Prague (second for Alessio) and I’m looking forward to get back and grab some more apricot croissants at Miss Sophie’s Downtown!
