Florida

“There is a specifically Floridian smell, the stink of America. Microwaves plastic, air freshener, hot oil mixed with mildew, and something else. Something ancient, rotting, and sweaty. Possibly life.”

Florida, the land of sunshine. Located in the southern-western area of the United States, this state is famous for its beaches, nightlife and parks like Disneyland and Universal Studios. Of course, it has also a great variety of National Parks and (for space addicted as my husband) NASA headquarters. We toured Florida for our honeymoon, spending here almost one month. We swam with the dolphins, met Mickey Mouse, a few astronauts and even saw alligators. I have to say this was a great trip and we had a great time and here you will find all the Florida Travel Guides.

Florida Travel Information

Florida is a state in the Southeastern region of the United States. It’s capital is Tallahassee and the largest city is Jacksonville. Nevertheless, two of its most famous cities (especially for Europeans) are Miami and Orlando.

Florida official language is American English. However, we met many people who spoke Spanish too, particularly in Miami.

Florida currency is the US Dollar. You can obtain this from any money exchange office or ATM in the country. Be aware that most ATM charge a withdrawal fee of 3-5$ to European credit cards (depending on the bank). Credit card are widely accepted and cash are mostly used for small purchases or tips.

In the United States of America, so also in Florida, the power plug sockets are of type A and B. If you are traveling from the United Kingdom, or any other nation in Europe, it’s worth to invest into an universal adapter. So that you don’t need to buy one for every destination I visit.

Booking your hotel in advance is essential to stay at your preferred accommodation. Indeed, during winter in Europe is peak period in Florida. This means that most popular places will become easily fully booked. I always get the best rates on Booking.com and I booked here all my stays in Florida.
