Germany

“The true poet, is like a man who’s happy anywhere, in endless measure, if he’s allowed to look at leaves and grass, to see the sun rise and set.”

― Brothers Grimm

Germany is always been to me the land of castles and fairytales. One of the oldest countries in Europe in which over two millennia of history mix with forests, villages and cities that sometimes look like frozen in time. As a contrast, there is also a part of Germany that is modern, eclectic, architectural eccentric and ready to forget about the most recent dark past. Despite my heart of medieval historian beats strong for the little villages, I did also appreciate this new modern part of Germany that offer numerous museums and a lovely food scene. Discovering Germany means do not forget about the scars of the past but to embrace its culture and beauty. Discover here the best Germany travel guides.

Germany Travel Information

Germany’s capital and largest city is Berlin. This is also EU’s most populous city with almost 4 millions inhabitants. Berlin is situated in the northeastern part Germany, close to the Polish border.

Germany official language is German. Some minority language spoken include Frisian and Serbian.

Germany uses the standard European plugs type C and type F. If you are traveling from the United Kingdom, or any other nation outside Europe, it’s worth to invest into an universal adapter. So that you don’t need to buy one for every destination I visit.

Booking your hotel in advance is more than essential. Indeed, accommodation prices tend to hike up, particularly during peak season and Christmas. I always get the best rates on Booking.com and I booked here all my stays in Germany.

Safety in Germany

Germany is a safe country to get around. However, pickpockets, particularly in big cities like Berlin or Frankfurt might be present. As you will walk a lot in crowded places, especially if you visit at Christmas time. I recommend to place your passport and cash in a Invisible Money Belt. My best suggestion is to keep on your wallet only small pieces of cash and hide the rest in the money belt. Indeed, this is very discrete and will ensure you can go around safely and without gaining unwanted attention.

Where is Germany?

Germany is located in Central Europe, for this reason it borders with different countries. Denmark in the north, Poland and the Czech Republic in the east, Austria and Switzerland in the south, France and Luxembourg in the south-west, and Belgium and the Netherlands in the north-west.
