A Magical Christmas at Blenheim Palace

Christmas at Blenheim Palace visit was part of an organised press trip in collaboration with Blenheim Palace but opinions are, as always, my own.

If I were a seven-year-old girl, on the 23rd of November, I would probably realize all my dreams by stepping into what looks like a real-life Cinderella Palace. This year’s Christmas lights trail at Blenheim Palace has definitely exceeded all expectations, offering the most unmissable experience of the upcoming festive season.

I must admit I was very excited to participate in this event. Christmas lights trails are not a traditional part of my cultural background. In Italy, we tend to focus more on decorating the main streets, shops, and squares in cities. Except for the famous Luminarie in the city of Salerno, I rarely heard of places creating an entire walkable light trail!

Blenheim Palace at Christmas

Our magical night at Blenheim Palace started in the lovely Orangery. Here, members of the media and press were welcomed with a taste of hot chocolate and the amazing scent of mulled wine, accompanied by tasty traditional British desserts. After the warm welcome from Blenheim Palace’s director, we began our visit. There are three main areas where you can start your Christmas trail visit: the Christmas market in the palace’s main courtyard, the Cinderella experience, and the Illuminated light trail.

Cinderella’s Fairy Tale Palace

The main Palace was decorated to resemble a shining Cinderella Castle. We were welcomed by the most festively decorated table. From here, we followed an itinerary that allowed us to discover the Palace’s historic rooms. Each one was themed according to the most significant Cinderella characters (e.g., The Fairy Godmother or Prince Charming). My favourite room was the one displaying Cinderella’s couch. This looked like it came straight out of a fairytale, thanks to its perfect use of lighting.

The Cinderella trail ended with the possibility of expressing your own wish at the magical tree of wishes in the Palace’s chapel.

Illuminated Christmas Lights Trail

After the enchanting visit to the Cinderella Palace, we proceeded to the Christmas Light trail that wound through the Formal gardens. If you’re worried about getting cold, fear not. Along the way, you’ll find little kiosks serving hot drinks and delicious mulled wine! I greatly enjoyed our stroll through the darkness and lights of the garden, accompanied by the most memorable Disney songs. Moreover, the perfectly chosen Harry Potter themes will lead you through a mystical magical forest. The highlights of the trail include a scented Fire Garden, the Singing Trees, and the incredible tunnel of pea lights at the trail’s end.

We concluded our evening at Blenheim Palace with a visit to the Christmas Market. This is situated in front of the Great Court. The market featured an incredible display of British craftsmanship, making it the perfect place for some early Christmas shopping. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience and cannot recommend it more, especially if you have children with you

This stunning palace, is famous for being the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill. His grave is located in the Formal Garden. The palace’s architect, Vanbrugh, designed the building to offer the best views from a distance rather than up close.
